{ bestiary }

Welcome to Songerein's Bestiary where we dump and try to categorize all the creatures that have been introduced through the game, either through events, the Dream Board, or Player Submissions.

We have a total of 64 creatures in here, and it's bound to grow.

Each section covers what creatures are most likely to be found, but do note that some cross over into other areas of the world. In such cases, we only list it where it's predominately found and note in the entry where else they appear. This is of course not an exhaustive list and players are welcome to create creatures that fit the setting at their leisure. They don't even need to be submitted; if your characters run across a monster and fight it, you do not need to submit it unless you'd like to have it included so others might find use for it.

Any creature is allowed so long as it fits the setting of the game! So most any fae or fantasy creature, or variants of such creatures.

If you wish to submit a creature, comment to the Submissions thread. You can even submit a quest for us to use to introduce it into the game.

You can also look through the World Directory to learn more about the location areas and other creatures that may not be featured here.

thank god for spreadsheets and autoscripts—
Tapirs
Found in: Reverein

Also known as "dream eaters," these little fairy creatures dwell mostly around the town. They are mostly friendly and will particularly enjoy the dreamwalkers as they will surely have some delectable dreams to eat. However, their favorites are nightmares. Should one have a particularly bad one, a tapir will likely appear to take a bite, which in turn may help ease the dreamer.
Fairy Cattle
Found in: Farmlands

These cute cows are quite docile and would be useful for any budding farm. Their coats are lined with one of various types of flowers, fruits, or vegetables, and their milk may also have a hint of flavor depending on what's growing on them. So it's possible to have a fairy cow with some strawberries on its back and produce strawberry milk. (samples: 1; 2;)
Spice Noodles
Found in: Reverein

Special little dragons that can produce various herbs and spices on their bodies. They are quite friendly and are attracted to food. Should they smell something particularly bland, they will appear to add some of their special spices to boost the flavor. It's best to stay on their good side, however, as bad treatment will result in the dragons dumping hot spice and pepper into meals in revenge. (credit)
Cotton Candy Sheep
Found in: Farmlands

These fluffy sheep can be found just outside the farmlands. The wool is not only delicious, but could actually be used in clothing if processed correctly. They are fast and flighty creatures, capable of hopping several tens of feet into the air and float away. The best way to lure them is to create hard candy wind chimes as they are not only attracted to the sound, but also the taste. The sweeter and crunchier, the better.
Bats
Found in: Reverein

Barok's particular flavor of Extra has attracted bats to the gloomy underside of his treehouse, and therefore the neighborhood in general. What kind of bats? Any and all of them, one hopes, but especially weird magic ones.
Flower Goats
Found in: Farmlands

Grazers of the land, alternative sources of plant-based meat, and likely milk with some floral hints depending on their flower type! Probably a way for flowers to grow as well as they move around, they're gonna be great pollinators.
Smoke Bats
Found in: Reverein

Strange bats that appeared within Reverein during the Verens dreamshift and refused to leave. Capable of transforming into a cloud of dark mist when danger presents itself. Inhaling any may lead to a sudden deep sleepiness and minor memory loss, so try not to startle them. (credit)
Botanicats
Found in: Reverein, Gardens, Forests

Plant cats that come in a large variety of shapes, sizes, and colors that come in quite a few other types of leafy plant. The kinds and colors will more than likely grow in their varieties as the botanicats venture out and explore, no doubt making their presence known in town. They are very cat-like in behavior and attitude. They enjoy playing around and in water, even a nice spritzing can perk them up at times. (credit)
Anemo Crystalfly
Found in: At Day's End Bar and Winery

A small fragile looking butterfly that looks to be made out of anemo (wind) energy. Its body is a small crystal shape much like a fluttering jewel. Thier wings are delicate and vanish if they are touched leaving the crystalfly unable to fly again until they naturally form again. Their cores seem to hold a slight tingle of magic if held. They tend to flock and play around the At Day's End bar and winery.
Jack Bros
Found in: Reverein, Farmlands, Wildlands

Jack Bros. With the season of spooks right around the corner and winter not far beyond, it's the perfect time of year for these... cute but also weirdly pervasive creatures to show up in Reverein! They're not particularly strong or threatening, but they do have a little magic at their disposal- Jack Frost, as you can imagine, wielding Ice, and Pyro Jack fire. Some rarer varieties like Black Frost, King Frost, or the dreaded Jack Ripper might display a greater degree of power and outright malevolence- but for the most part the weaker varieties are tricksters, whether it's Pyro Jack leading travelers astray on foggy nights, or Jack Frost playing mostly-innocent pranks. Mostly. They also make for very desirable plush toys.
Yetox
Found in: Reverein, Forests

Ox-like creatures that prefer the higher altitudes of snowy mountains and feed on frozen plantlife under the snow they dig out, or the bark of trees they rip off with their hoof-like digits. Strong and sturdy creatures, they are very peaceful unless a threat is felt. Their long fur is prized in making warm blankets and clothing, and trust has to be gained before any allow this fur to be shorn; this usually occurs in warmer months, or if they have wandered down to the bases of mountains and surrounding plains. (credit)
Cat-bee
Found in: Gardens, Forests

While harmless, they are very much attracted to sweet things and have no issues getting into your personal space if you have something they’re interested in. They’re also quite loud, buzzing and purring and occasionally mewing at people to get their attention. And, like bees and cats alike, they have no issues using claws and/or stingers to attack if they’re irritated.
Mandragora
Found in: Outskirts, Plains

Just outside of town, in a designated, marked field, are special singing plants whose leaves are considered quite valuable for their medicinal properties. They’re easy to find; all someone has to do is follow the pleasant tone of its voice to a stalk of leafy greens ripe for the plucking. However, care must be taken or it will scream bloody murder and attack.
Flower Fairies
Found in: Town, Gardens, Forests

Floral fairies can be found around anywhere with flowers, tending to them to make sure they look their absolute best for the festival. They’re a friendly sort, especially to those who help them tend to and/or plant more flowers throughout town. There’s no such thing as too many flowers!
Flower Blossom Owls
Found in: Treehouses, Gardens, Outskirts, Forests

Floral owls that tend to nest in or near wherever a lot of flowers are. They are fairly quiet, but can be a destructive to gardens as they eat on fruits and flowers. Having a designated feeder will help keep them away. Sending a wild nest to the forest is also suggested. credit)
Garnish Noodles
Found in: Forest

While in the forest 76 discovered the 'cousins' of the Spicy Noodles - A relative of the Spicy Noodle, Garnish Noodles are drawn to beverages and places that serve them; tea shop, coffee shop, cafe, bar, juice bar- you name it and a Garnish Noodle may not be too far away. They enjoy enhancing drinks to give a little something more to their tastes, and some specialize in certain types of drinks over others. Very friendly, but if anger or offence is managed they will turn a drink into the nastiest concoction ever tasted. (credit)
Redcaps
Found in: Outer Range, near the Wastelands

Small goblin-like creatures, that live close to the cliffs bordering the Wasteland and very vicious. After all, their caps are dyed red from the blood of those they kill. Only strong fighters should set out to retrieve the stolen items and should be aware of the magic and traps they wield. Their numbers have diminished significantly after past raids, but they are still around and could strike again.
Singing Fish
Found in: Lake, River, Reverein

A type of fish that live in the lake but will sometimes swim up the river and through town. They will almost always be singing some kind of song, and their knowledge of music knows no bounds, songs ranging from all kinds of genres and worlds. Where they learn them no one knows...
Dream Honeybees
Found in: Forests

Steve Rogers and Soldier: 76 (PCs) discovered these bright blue and super fluffy honeybees. They are a friendly bunch, even if most of their time is spent in deeper wooded areas. They collect nectar and pollen from various native flowers and trees, all to bring back to their hives to make Dream Honey. The honey’s color varies but it looks similar to a starry galaxy. Anything made with this honey takes on a similar quality about it, making dream honey a popular ingredient for looks and for the tastes it can bring as well. Expect quests or something with them in the future.
Wild Wilows
Found in: Dark Woods

Discovered during the expedition, these Wild Willows pretend to look like willow trees to trap unwary prey and are capable of rising up from the ground to chase those that manage to escape. Can be found deep in the dark woods.
Big Chickens
Found in: Forests

They are big and can be found in the forests. Relatively easy to bring back to the farms, just beware of the rooster. (credit)
Chocobos
Found in: Forests, Plains, Farmlands

Everyone should know what these are— They're large, flightless birds (think like an Ostrich) with massive beaks which are great for digging and talons that carry them fast and far. They can be tamed to be ridden but will need gyshal greens to do so. They also come in different colors which will determine what special abilities they have.
Tartary
Found in: Forests, Plains, Farmlands

Visually indistinguishable from an ordinary cotton plant until it flowers, the Tartary produces not cotton, but small, round sheep with especially fluffy and plush wool. After falling from the plant, they behave just as any other sheep and will continue to grow until they reach the size of a volleyball, at which point they stop growing, and will drop seeds to propagate the next generation of Tartary plants.
Tea Mouse
Found in: Forests, Plains, Reverein

Discovered by Ryunosuke and Zidane, Tea Mice are small mouse-like creatures. Rather than fur, they seem to grow tea leaves. The flavor of those tea leaves is dependent on the creature's mood. If they’re sleepy, you may get chamomile tea. If it’s excited, you may get something with a bright citrus flavor. More complex feelings may produce something new and wild that confounds the taste buds. The creature also has sugar claws and can produce an extra sweet drop of honey from it's tail. (credit)
Flower Horses
Found in: Forests, Farmlands, Plains

Continuing the flower animal trend, a small herd of horses with flowers growing from their manes, tails, and fetlocks have been discovered and a few ranchers have taken some in. They are quite docile and as long as they are well groomed and taken care of, they are willing to work with anyone who wishes to ride them. They are fairly intelligent and seem to understand any language spoken to them.
Dahnan Owls
Found in: Forests

Owls that are typically native to the realm of Dahna. They're round, soft and can fly. These owls appear in legends of the past and are also a symbol of history.
Giant Butterflies
Found in: Forests, Swamps, Plains, Reverein

The giant butterflies that appeared during the festival can be found in the Wildlands and sometimes in fields or even the treehouses. They love flowers, so anything that has a large enough flower they can feast from will attract their attention. They are friendly and will allow anyone to ride on their backs.
Capybara
Found in: Forests, Lake

Big (2 feet tall) light brown furred rodents with barrel bodies, sharp teeth, webbed feet, and short heads. These rodents primarily live in savannas, dense forests, and nearby bodies of water. Semiaquatic in nature as they are very good swimmers and can hold their breath for 5 minutes max. They eat grass, reeds, aquatic plants, fruits, and tree bark, though they are very selective with what they eat (preferring leaves of one species over another for example). Capybaras are also very social creatures and they could live in groups that go as many as 100 or as small as 10 to 20. Normally live for 8-10 years if not eaten by predators.
Bunnanas
Found in: Forests, Jungle

Tifa and Ori discovered bunnanas while out looking for real bananas in the Wildlands. They live (and maybe grow?) in the banana peels up in the trees among actual bananas. They look and feel like real bananas, but who knows if they actually taste like them... PLEASE DO NOT EAT THE BUNNANAS. (credit)
Goldfish Lanterns
Found in: Lake, River, Ponds

Living metal and glass, Goldfish Lanterns swim through the air with warm, colorful lights emanating from them. Some have bells attached, giving a tinkling sign that they're close. Sizes may vary from as small as a normal goldfish to the body being the size of a sports ball, and they're generally of a friendly temperament... unless they're hungry. In which case, it may be best not to ask how they're spraying you with water.
Choya
Found in: Jungle

The Choya are large cacti-shaped plant creatures that can walk. They photosynthesise and make weird rattling noises by means of communication. They have basic intelligence and are capable of specializing in certain roles in their community, including cooking. They're a peaceful sort who usually go about their own business lazing in the sunlight, but there are certain troublemakers who are eventually kicked out of the community. If attacked, they will defend themselves with their spines or melee attacks. They will explode upon death, but why would you hurt a choya?
Axolturtle
Found in: Beach

Susato and Kazuma discovered a new turtle-like friend while swimming around at the beach after dark. He was caught among some rocks. He has a spiky, rock-hard shell with a fishy tail, and seems to enjoy bathing in the moonlight (and also nesting in long, human hair). He also enjoys eating glowing sea flowers as a snack. He appears to thrive in both salt- or freshwater, because he has accompanied them home and now hangs out in the Wild Harvest garden. (credit)
Starry Clouded Leopard
Found in: Forests, Cliffs

A type of small-sized wild cat, name due to the flowers that grow on it amongst fur and resemblance to another small-sized wild cat. They are curious creatures, and likely to make some denser areas of the Wildlands their home. Spend most of their time up in trees and very little on the ground, clever little hunters.
Glowing Chordarta
Found in: Ocean

A rather strange large salt-water fish that has bioluminescent qualities, equipped with long and sharp barbs that carries poison along its main fins; also at its tail, hidden in the ruffles of those fins. Edible when de-barbed and cooked, tastes sweet and even buttery. The poison carried in the large barbs causes a loss of feeling in the punctured area and eventually the entire limb if left untreated. Can cause lethal sluggishness if out in the water; fish carefully.
Sharktopus
Found in: Ocean, near the beach

Exploring close to the boundary of the safe zone at the beach may have you encountering the sharktopus. It won't venture too close to shore, but people who wander too far out should beware.
Seelies
Found in: Forests, Swamps

Specifically from Genshin Impact. They're little wisp-like beings that have designated statues that they rest at. Anyone who follows a Seelie back to a statue will be rewarded with treasure, big or small. Legend says that they were once beautiful beings that would guide mankind with their wisdom, but a disaster caused them to essentially lose their identities and turn into the Seelie in present day.
Mimics
Found in: Everywhere

Mimics are creatures that disguise themselves as objects to draw beings closer to them so that they can lunge at them and try to eat them. They take on the shape of a mundane object and, when sitting still, are completely indistinguishable from regular objects. Then, when something comes close enough to interact with them, they make their true presence known and strike. Their tongues are also quite sticky, so if you're licked by a mimic it could be a little difficult to break free.

The most common mimics are treasure chest mimics, but a mimic could theoretically be anything. Is that a harmless book? Nope, mimic. An innocent barrel or chair? Nope, mimics. A door leading into a building? You guessed it, mimic. A new set of mugs for the inn? Or a family of mimics? Surely something as innocent as an outhouse would be untouched, right?? Well...

Shadowlings
Found in: Dark Places, Reverein

These are small, nondescript shadow-like creatures which crawl and ooze along the ground. Entirely harmless, they seemingly formed from Emet-Selch's emotions (or so we were originally led to believe). They prefer to remain in quiet, dark places away from sunlight such as under furniture and shrubbery. Originally little more than "puppets", they seem to have taken on a life of their own, capable of simple vocalizations and understanding basic speech. At the time of this writing, there are only two existing specimens - dubbed "Gemini" and "Ophiuchus". However, following a certain incident, a well-meaning young man has perhaps sought to conjure more of the creatures as an apology for injuring one of the first. Although their domain is currently limited to the residence of the three Ancients, who knows how soon one of the creatures may escape into the wider dream world… (Links here and here.)
Hell Chickens
Found in: Cliffs

Based on Abyssal Chickens from D&D lore. These creatures are small and crescent-shaped that stand about a foot tall, with two chicken legs protruding on either side of it. While the legs face forwards, the claws are reversed with a sharp talon on each end that can easily cut skin open. Its skin is leathery and looks to be made of pinkish muscle tissue, littered with a variety of pock-marks throughout. It has wings that are folded above its head, the interior of which is red and sinewy. Though it has wings, it is not made for prolonged flight. The hell chicken's head protrudes forward and has no visible eyes or nose, but its mouth is lined with jagged teeth and houses its long tongue. Both its wings and throat are slightly transparent. Its skills are being a menace and a pest, and its purpose is for nightmare fuel. If you dare hunt them down, they can actually be used for food and taste like fatty chicken. They can be found along the cliffs and the trees of the surrounding area.
Chinchompas
Found in: Cliffs, Plains, everywhere

A type of rodent-like creature which can be found in various habitats. Red in desert or sandy places, blue in cold places, green in grassy areas, etc. Rarely there will be a golden or crystal chinchompa. They eat almost anything and are very cuddly creatures that can be kept as pets. However, there is a small but non-zero chance that a chinchompa may carry a genetic trait that makes it explode into a shower of crystalline glitter once a dreamwalker tries to touch it.
Dreammets
Found in: Dreamotion Plant, Reverein

Creatures that are now flitting around the Dreamotion Plant and Reverein to keep everything that uses dreamotion power in a working state! They're very curious about the new dreamers now inhabiting the old town and may follow them around to observe them for a bit before flying off. Their wings are extra sparkly around strong, positive dreamotion, but other than looking pretty, it doesn't do anything else (for now.) Some may actually stay with the new dreamers if they're allowed to! These are powered by dreamotion, as everything here, and as long as it's around, they'll be working. Nightmare energy hasn't been observed near them, so who knows what may happen when the dreammets are exposed to it... Don't break them!
Crystalflytes
Found in: Elecrystal Caves

Found a little deeper in the elecrystal caves will the crystalflytes appear: similar to fireflies, the lighted part of them look more crystalline, much like the walls of the elecrystal cave. Trapping them gives you light, and they don't seem to die off like normal fireflies. Trapping enough into something for a light source will interact with any Dreamotion you set off, showing a piece of a dream of yours for a brief moment. The more Dreamotion, the longer the scene. However, once about an hour has elapsed, the crystalflytes disappear and seem to reappear in the cave itself.
Para-frogs
Found in: Swamp, Outer Range

Touching (or licking if you're weird like that) will cause you to be temporarily paralyzed for a minute or two. Repeated use will just cause you to continually be paralyzed. Found out in the outer wilds on the elecrystal/dreamotion plant excursion. ...they're just Monster Hunter paratoads, but look how majestic they look. Please don't touch them. You can probably get rid of an infestation by no direct contact or scaring them off by loud noises.
Trionyx Babies
Found in: Swamp, Outer Range

Or Evil Turtle babies. Light brown in color and around the size of a human hand. Their main motivation is to bite and cause mayhem, and they need to eat for the strength to do that even more. They're omnivorous but seem to prefer going after people and have been know to store prey for later, either underwater or in dark, damp places. They also appear to enjoy destruction and causing suffering and once took down an entire freighter ship with their mother just because they could. Evil turtles live up to 130 years, so they'll probably be infants for a while. They're actually quite fast, unfortunately. They are also capable of strategizing to ambush people or will use items against them. The biggest problem is that they're indestructible. You can knock them away or stun them for a while, or totally incapacitate them by dehydrating them. It only takes a single drop of water to revive one, or possibly it's just a teardrop because they feed on misery. Still, there's no injuring or killing them.
Snoyotes
Found in: Forests

These four-legged, snaked-headed creatures are born scavengers, and while they are slightly venomous it is more used in fights; they have been known to bite anything that gets too close, and later track it down if the venomous bite is not treated quickly. Usually pack animals, they roam in small parties in search of food to bring back to their dens; a favorite includes eggs of any type, birds, and small rodents.

Snoyotes are very quick moving creatures, and do give warning with the rattles at the ends of their tails; also used to play with their young, as the sound attracts their attention. Dens are usually made within cave-like orifices in either stone or hard ground, and can house up to six adults and a few nests. They’ve been known to settle in larger caves when available, and expand their numbers to take up said space around mating and hatching seasons.

They will doggedly defend their territory and food, one of the few times they will bite as an attack. (credit)
Fennel Fox
Found in: Forests

Mischievous creatures that act out for entertainment and their playful natures; likely to steal anything that jingles and shines so they can be chased. Easy to make friends with, and highly recommended as they will give presents of shiny things taken and kept that they have no real use for; very good for bartering! Soft and warm to the touch, the greatest sign of trust is allowing some of the herbs that grow amongst their “fur” to be picked and used for cooking or medicines. (credit)
Moon Jellyfish
Found in: Lake

Jellyfish that rise to the surface of the lake, or any body of water they happen to be in, once the moon is high in the sky; they tend to glow in multiple colors, lighting up the surface as if the water was filled with jewels. Lake bound Moon Jellies tend to rest deep in the darkest part of the water to remain unseen. Those in larger bodies of water grow far bigger, but still exhibit the same behavior during full moons. Capable of delivering a nasty sting. Moon Jellies are docile for the most part. (credit)
Winter Nymphs
Found in: Mountains

They live high up in the snowy mountain peaks and are mischevious, vicious, vengeful, and stubborn. They have a tendency to build ice castles to rule over wherever they please and create snow storms. However, they can be convinced to stop through sensible conversation.
Electric Eal
Found in: Ocean

A large and increasingly aggressive type of eel that is territorial and sensitive to boats from being overfished before. It will use electric attacks underwater and even outside of water. Its meat is delicious, but there are restrictions put in place until their numbers repopulate
Pumpkin Spice
Found in: Forests

Pumpkin spice comes from tiny spice pumpkins that come out of hiding in the fall. If drained too much, they turn ghostly white or, in extreme cases, husks of their former selves.
Jersey Devil
Found in: Dark Woods

Described as a part-goat, part-bat devil that kills animals (including people) for food and for sport. Its origins are unclear - some say that it’s the cursed thirteenth child of an old fae family.
Mari Lwyd
Found in: Forests, Reverein in December

Only appears during the Christmas holidays to roam around and pay residents a visit. She will otherwise reside in the forests hidden away. While interacting with her, she challenges people to friendly rhyme contests: winners get sweet treats, losers owe her alcohol and snacks. She is very friendly despite her skeletal appearance–although that doesn’t mean she’ll allow people to treat her poorly. Anyone who tries to attack her will fail horribly (and comically) and have bad luck for roughly a week. (credit)
Kirin
Found in: Cliffs, Outer Range

Can be found prancing around the cliff walls, usually putting even the most springy mountain goat to shame as they climb the steep sheer walls with ease. They are the noblest of the creatures that dwell within the cliffs and keep a wary eye out for anything that may encroach from the Wastelands, working in tandem with large golden eagles that can sometimes be seen flying overhead. They will be friendly and help any who end up lost within the numerous tunnels and caves, even guiding adventurers to special oases formed by their own hooves and magic. The water will have varying healing effects, ranging from general relaxation and ease of sleep to minor healing to detoxification. Their scales can also be found mostly around the oases and are free for the taking. Like most everything related to them, when ground into powder they can be a useful sleep and perhaps some other uses. (credit)
Gryphon
Found in: Cliffs, Outer Range

These magnificent predators are the more aggressive guardians of the cliffs and are very territorial. They may not attack on sight, but if anyone encroaches too close to their nests, then it's claws first, questions later. However, some may be able to curry favor by helping protect the nests from a snake-headed coyote that's more than happy to pilfer unguarded nests for eggs.
Glowing Frog
Found in: Inside: Caves, Cliffs, Canyons

These glow in the dark frogs should be handled with care as they are capable of secreting a toxic poison that will stun and paralyze an adult human for several minutes. They are popular ingredients for poisons, but they can also be used to create antidotes for a number of poisons. They are able to climb walls and fit through small spaces, making them difficult to catch.
Glowing Bat
Found in: Inside: Caves, Cliffs, Canyons

Although they don't need the light to see, these herbivores use their bioluminesence to confuse potential predators by flying rapidly around, their light causing dizziness and disorientation. Otherwise they are passive creatures and prefer to stay in their dark homes.
Harpy
Found in: Cliffs, Outer Range, Mountains

A dangerous, winged creature with the top half resembling a female human and bottom half with clawed feet. They are very territorial, aggressive, and their high pitched screams can momentarily deafen and confuse any who hear it.
Pocket Raptors
Found in: Jungle

Small dinosaurs (literally pocket-sized raptors) that now hang out in the jungle (thanks trahearne!!). They typically hang out in groups of 4 - 6, using their small size to hide among foliage to ambush unsuspecting travelers and swarm them. They are small, but they are fast and vicious. Watch out!!!!!! Don't die!!!!!!!!! (seen in action)
Personal 3 Shadows
Found in: Anywhere

Blobs that can turn into blobs with masks, tables with masks, hands with masks, giant lion faced wheels on fire with masks, etc. This excludes Full Moon Shadows and Nyx. They can appear anywhere from groups of one to five. As they're not actually from anyone's souls - they're nightmares - they won't cause Apathy Syndrome.
Naga
Found in: Jungle, Canyons, Cliffs

Large snakes with armored scales. Remnants from the fight with the Story Eater, the serpents occasionally spotted in the Wildlands are mostly lesser creatures that have been transformed into their current scaly shapes after coming into contact with the miasma produced by the Nagas summoned during that battle. They propagate via their venomous bite, which can transform creatures with weak minds or bodies into more of their scaly kin. Like reptilian zombies.
Noise
Found in: Reverein and outskirts of Wildlands

Noise take the form of animals or mythical creatures with tattoo-like patterns in place of various body parts. A number of them remain scattered throughout Songerein after appearing during the battle against the Story Eater. They target people with low willpower, playing on their negative emotions, similar to nightmare energy. When affected, the negative emotions are more pronounced and can only dissipate when the Noise influencing them is destroyed.
Noctaere
Found in: Wasteland, dreams, anywhere there's a high concentration of nightmare energy

Shadowy creatures born from large amounts of nightmare energy. can appear in any form, from your typical creepy shadow monster to an actual person. Although they mostly appear within dreams, they are capable of taking physical form outside of dreams. More information can be found here. (samples: (warning some are very creepy) 1; 2)
Sand Shark
Found in: Wastelands, near the Outer Range

Giant, monstrous sharks that live under the toxic sands. They will breach the surface to attack any prey that might be above. They are also capable of sliding over the sand surface, even coming to the edge of the sand where hard rock dirt meets to chase after a potential meal.
Sand Wurm
Found in: Wastelands, near the Outer Range

Even larger than the sharks, these wurms also live in the sands, tunneling beneath it to move around. They will occasionally pop up to try and catch anything that might be on the surface, going several tens of feet high into the air before disappearing back down.
