{ canon update }

CANON UPDATEThe waiting time to update to new materials is two weeks and there are two ways for a character to canon update.

  1. Via Dream. Similar to a memory regain, characters can have a dream detailing the new things their original self is experiencing. Everything will feel as if they had also experienced it and if there were any physical changes, they will also occur. This is probably the simplest way as it's just one long dream and they'll wake up the next morning feeling a bit strange. After all, they just got a load of information dumped into them.

  2. Returning home. Thanks to dreamotion energy, a character can be sent back home either involuntarily or voluntarily. If involuntary, then nothing really needs to be done, they just randomly disappear. If voluntary, then the character can use 3 regain baubles at the Wishing Well as a return ticket to their original self with a guaranteed return back to Songerein. So it's possible for them to use the bauble to make a "quick trip" back to their world and then be pulled back in. Regardless of the method, the characters won't really remember much of Songerein while they're gone but they will remember everything upon returning to Songerein. The character can be "gone" for up to three days. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

    • Time lapse. Time is shenanigans and time will pass much more slowly in Songerein than it does in their world. Even if more than a year passes in their world, the character will only be "gone" for up to three days.

    • Memories. With this option the characters won't really remember much of Songerein while they're gone but will remember everything upon returning to Songerein. They can feel as if they saw glimpses of vague things from Songerein, even recurring themes, but nothing that would make them think more than, "Well that was a weird dream." Of course when they return to Songerein, they will realize those glimpses were related to the world.

In both cases it is possible for characters to obtain new clothes or items they may have acquired during the update. These can be included in the canon update, however it's limited to what they have on their person. Anything else would have be to regained normally

Now just fill out the form and comment to this entry. It's highly advised you include the new canon updated information somewhere in your journal for reference.

Your canon update should be processed within 48 hours, but if you don't hear back within that timeframe please send a PM to the mod journal or ping us on Discord!

Character: Venti
Canon: Genshin Impact
Current Canon Point: post 2.4, Lantern Rite
New Canon Point: post 3.5, Windblume's Breath

Updated Background:
πŸƒ While the Traveler ( Aether ) is gathering supplies to restore the Jade Chamber, Xiao is seen observing the ocean. He's monitoring the situation with Beisht, Osial's wife, but says that he cannot interfere. It just makes him anxious.

πŸƒ Prior to the events that lead Aether and others to the Chasm, there are rumors going on about an Adeptus there. Xiao asks to go to the Chasm to look for this person. He's eventually discovered by Aether, Itto, Kuki, and Yelan. He tells them all to leave before he disappears himself.

πŸƒ As the group continues to explore the Chasm, they find that there's something odd about it. They can hear Xiao talking to someone and he's struggling. The group solve puzzles and enters in various domains. There Xiao once more tells them to leave because it's too dangerous. He's abruptly cut off.

πŸƒ Eventually Xiao is dragged out of the domain that he is in, explaining that he is looking for Bosacius. This is where the group learns that the Chasm draws people in with illusions and then traps them inside. Xiao says that he will use his powers to transport the others, but it will mean leaving him behind. Everyone refuses this idea.

πŸƒ The group is attempting to find another means of escape and thus begin to move through the Chasm and its illusions. Here there are remnant memories and Xiao confirms that Bosacius had been here. He was the Nameless Yaksha that participated in the campaign. Soon after he purges the memory in a brief fight.

πŸƒ Using the Compass, the idea is to return them to the surface. Xiao had been tasked with maintaining the energy flow into the Compass. He eventually has to dispatch some evil energies and it becomes apparent that this will be a losing battle. Thus using the last of his energy... He sends the group t the surface - sacrificing himself.

πŸƒ ...Or so he thought. Zhongli expends energy to save Xiao. Xiao has a conversation with Aether about it shortly after everyone parts ways.

πŸƒ Xiao still visits Pervases temple. Aether and Ping'an eventually restore the temple.

πŸƒ Due to the Dendro Archon Rukkhadevata's actions through Nahida, she is effectively written out of history. While Xiao might not have met her in person, her name would no longer be in his memory.

πŸƒ Lantern Rite! This time he is something of a guest of honor. Xiao enjoys a meal with some others - including Zhongli and Venti ( and honestly it's almost too much ). Ends up not just spending time with the Traveler ( Aether ), but Venti later on as well.

Updated Personality:
πŸƒ Nothing, really... It's just said that he is softer. That he is being more sociable and beginning to understand that he's allowed things for himself. That he can enjoy little moments spent with others. There are attempts at actually engaging with others.

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] gentryofhermitage 2023-06-17 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Zhongli
Canon: Genshin Impact
Current Canon Point: Post 2.7 Update
New Canon Point: Post 3.5, Windblume's Breath

Updated Background:
πŸ‰ The Traveler (in this case, Aether) has travelled to Sumeru and explored the many mysteries of the nation. During this time, the former Dendro Archon, Rukkhadevata, requests her existence be removed from history so that Irminsul, the Tree of Wisdom, can be purged of Forbidden Knowledge that had been poisoning it and causing many problems throughout Sumeru and Teyvat as a whole. Through the actions of both the Traveller and the current Dendro Archon, Nahida, Rukkhadevata is effectively erased from history (with only the Traveler remembering her due to his status as an Otherworlder). Every trace of Rukkhadevata is erased; every memory, tale, writing, and reference is changed to remove her from the narrative. As such, Zhongli and the rest of the world will no longer remember the former Dendro Archon and will regard Nahida as the one and only Dendro Archon.

πŸ‰ Lantern Rite begins! Zhongli initially greets the Traveler as he arrives, and they have a thrilling discussion about "the sheer delight that is a soup cooked with the freshest nascent Bamboo Shoots in all the land". He gets the Traveler to fetch some nascent Bamboo Shoots while he hangs out drinking tea.

πŸ‰ While on quests during the Lantern Rite, the Traveler learns about Guizhong, the God of Dust who was slain during the Archon War. The adeptus Cloud Retainer speaks of how in the past, the gods and adepti would gather during Lantern Rite for food, drink, and merriment, and that Zhongli (as Rex Lapis) would sometimes have to settle quarrels among the adepti. The Traveler is told about how Zhongli settled a dispute between Guizhong and Streetward Rambler over whether mechanical devices could create music with as much soul and purpose as music made from a living being. After the debate was settled, Zhongli confiscated the Cleansing Bell (the musical, mechanical device that had started the argument) and delegated it to ceremonial use only. After the Archon War, and after Guizhong's death, he gave the Cleansing Bell to Streetward Rambler (now known as the elderly Madame Ping) for safekeeping at Streetward Rambler's request, to honour Guizhong's memory.

πŸ‰ Later, Zhongli can be found alongside Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper on Mt. Hulao. He makes the Bamboo Shoot Soup with the help of the Traveler and the two adepti with him, and shares it with the Traveler. He spends the evening with the two adepti in order to ring in the new year, before joining Hu Tao and the others for her upcoming banquet.

πŸ‰ Banquet time! Zhongli joins the Traveler, Hu Tao, and several others in a lavish dinner prepared by Hu Tao. He is joined by Chongyun, Xingqiu, Xiangling, Xiao, and Venti, though during the banquet he pretends to not know Xiao and Venti, both to keep their identities and his own a secret. Venti and Zhongli get a little too into their performance, much to Xiao's embarrassment. After the banquet, Zhongli has a chat with the Traveler and Xiao about the former adepti and the changing relationships between gods, adepti, and humanity, before retiring for the evening. He can later be seen talking to Guoba, the weakened form of Marchosius the Stove God, and catching up with his old friend.

Updated Personality: Zhongli's personality will be left largely unchanged. He will, however, feel an inexplicable sadness over the loss of Rukkhadevata, though he won't know where this sadness is coming from or why he feels it.

Any other updates: N/A

Regain Baubles? Nah - Involuntary please!

Questions/Other: I'm currently on hiatus until July 1st so can we time this so that when he comes back it'll be on July 1st? Thanks!

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] skyglider 2023-06-19 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Link
Canon: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom
Current Canon Point: Before defeating Calamity Ganon
New Canon Point: After finishing the Dragon Tears questline

Updated Background: A lot has changed since Link was last in Songerein. Upon return to Hyrule, he finally faced his duty and defeated Calamity Ganon, returning the kingdom to peaceful times and bringing Princess Zelda back into the world after a full hundred years.

Four years pass between BOTW and TOTK. In that time, Link and Zelda spend much of their time and efforts assisting the people of Hyrule and rebuilding the kingdom. They tend to their grief over their home, their friends, and their families, they travel, they begin to form new friendships. Link is now 21, though barely any taller. rip.

HELLO HI FROM HERE ON THERE WILL BE TOTK SPOILERS. I'll try to black out anything major but…just warning, lol.

While investigating a disturbing new substance that's making people fall ill, Link and Zelda stumble upon Some Bad Shit beneath Hyrule Castle. Because their lives are the way they are, the Ancient Evil That Was Totally Here The Whole Time suddenly awakens as soon as they get there; Dehydrated Ganondorf basically calls them little punks and totally owns them. Zelda learns about time travel the hard way and Link loses his arm, along with the Master Sword, before his Shiny New Semi Sentient Ghost Arm saves him. Dehydrated Ganondorf does some weird shit and Makes Monsters Great Again.

Some unspecified amount of time later, Link wakes up on a giant floating island in the sky, once again in just his underwear but, unlike last time, this time his memories are in tact and it's his arm that's totally different. That's right, fun magic ghost arm with the on-fleek manicure.

Anyway, Link's lack of fear of heights is really put to the test because to get back to Hyrule he has to literally just jump.

His exact canon point is where we go REALLY big on spoilers: after gathering the Sages and finishing the Dragon Tears quest, before getting the Master Sword.

The Dragon Tears questline sees him finding memories of Princess Zelda and her adventures in the past, scattered all across Hyrule. The final memory he finds is of Princess Zelda's devastating final sacrifice: in order to restore the broken Master Sword, and to return it to him from the past, she swallows her secret stone as the sage of time and becomes a dragon. This has, for Link, happened within only a few days, so he'll be returning to Songerein in kind of a frantic mental state. He'll also be returning WITHOUT the Master Sword.

Updated Personality: More quick notes
In the four years between the two games, Link has become more expressive and open. Not enough to relinquish the silent protag title, thoughβ€”it's more of a progression than a change. He's also very slightly more laid back, likely due to being able to choose what he wants to do now, rather than having those duties assigned to him.

At present, he's coming in from an emotional canon point after having been alone for the first time in a very long timeβ€”even in the first game, he always had Princess Zelda's voice to guide him. So he's going to be going through it, a bit.

Any other updates: oh god here we go

The Champions abilities that he was previously able to access are gone, though he might be able to create something similar to those abilities later on via dreamotion. Instead, he has a slew of new, insane abilities that will have to be nerfed to understandable levels.
Ultrahand: Link can use his weird new arm to grab onto a single object and move it. This ability can also be used to stick objects together, making him able to build a bunch of weird stuff. Nerfs: he can't maneuver easily while ultrahand-grabbing objects. He can only move them a certain distance in any direction, maybe about 10-15 feet. I'd say they have to be smaller than a room in a house, as wellβ€”he can't pick up entire buildings, for example. And only a certain number of objects can be stuck together (I think in-game I hit 24 before it stopped letting me superglue.)
Fuse: this is similar to ultrahand, but mostly allows Link to stick objects onto weapons. The nerfs are similar to ultrahand, as well, and any object fused onto a weapon has to be something he's able to lift with his own strength. Also, if he fuses a bomb/explosive to a stick and hits something with it, it makes him go boom, too.
Ascend: Link is able to slam through an object to reach something above it. He basically makes a personal elevator through the floor and just phases through it. He does a swimming animation while he does. It's wild. Nerfs: he has to be able to stand beneath the surface he's going to ascend through, and the surface he's going to ascend to must be relatively flat ground. Currently he can only use it to go through areas above him, not walls beside him. Also, the surface he's ascending to must be sort of close, maybe no more than 20-25 feet higher than him.
Recall: the ability to turn back time for an object. Nerfs: this only applies to objects, not people or animals. Similar to ultrahand, it must be an object, rather than, for example, an entire building. Recall can only turn back time for a certain amount of time. He can rewind something by maybe a minute, he can't rewind it through its entire history.

He has some other abilities (autobuild, for example) that probably won't come into play via gameplay mechanics.

Regain Baubles?
Nope, this is an involuntary update.

Questions/Other: Not so much a question, just a note that he'll be arriving with an updated inventory, including the Purah Pad rather than the Sheikah Slate, as well as some fancy outfits and a few meals/ingredients/materials he had with him. And as mentioned before, no Master Sword.

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] multidisciplinary 2023-06-19 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Zelda
Canon: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild -> Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (sequel)
Current Canon Point: Breath of the Wild: ~40 years post-Calamity
New Canon Point: Tears of the Kingdom: Memory #16 (Critical Decisions)

Updated Background: Zelda returned home and spent another ~60 years being sealed away with Calamity Ganon for a total of 100 years. Link awoke in the Shrine of Resurrection, freed the Divine Beasts and the souls of the Champions, then defeated Calamity Ganon and saved Zelda (and I guess Hyrule too lol).

Over the course of the next four years, Zelda and Link travel all over the kingdom and help it start to rebuild and recover.

A weird substance called Gloom starts appearing in Hyrule and making people sick. It appears to be coming from beneath Hyrule Castle, so Zelda and Link venture below the castle to investigate it.

They find a whole bunch of crazy shit down there, including some murals that talk about an ancient war that predates any of the past Calamities, and also a scary mummy that is being magically imprisoned by a glowing arm. When they get close, Ganondorf wakes up, breaks free, and a weird stone falls off of the arm, which Zelda grabs. Ganondorf attacks Link and Zelda with Gloom, shatters the Master Sword, and causes the ground beneath them to collapse. As Zelda starts falling, the stone causes Magic to happen and she vanishes from sight.

Zelda reappears in a field outside and is found by two strangers. She learns that she has somehow traveled back in time to the ancient past, the founding of the kingdom of Hyrule, and the people she meets are its first king and queen, Rauru and Sonia.

Zelda ends up being stuck in the past and can't return back to her time. Rauru and Sonia are going to help her with this, except they've also got shit going on. There's this evil man named Ganondorf who hates Hyrule and is going to take over because Reasons. Despite everyone's best efforts, he's basically unstoppable. He kills Sonia and steals her power amplifier and transforms himself into the Demon King. Rauru and co. are constantly outmatched by Ganondorf, so in a last ditch effort, Rauru sacrifices himself to use his power to seal Ganondorf and basically locks the two of them in place for the next 156574 until Link can come defeat Ganondorf.

Some time after the battle, the damaged Master Sword travels back in time to find Zelda (because it's just capable of doing that). Zelda remembers how the sword can heal itself and also grow stronger over time. She decides that the best way to make it strong enough to defeat Ganondorf is to spend the next 4864256 years between now and her normal time strengthening the sword with her powers. And the only way to live long enough to do that is to turn herself into an eternal dragon, which is not reversible. Zelda is imminently planning on doing this when she is brought back to Songerein.

Updated Personality: On the surface, it doesn't look like Zelda has changed a lot, but she has actually grown a ton in terms of self confidence and self forgiveness. Zelda has had time to process much of her grief and trauma from BOTW. She used to blame herself for the Calamity because she couldn't awaken her powers in time to prevent it, but she has come to accept that what happened wasn't her fault.

Zelda will probably always carry a certain amount of trauma from BOTW, but it doesn't weigh on her as heavily as it used to. She paves her own way as a leader of this new Hyrule and enjoys widespread love and support. She isn't crippled by self doubt any longer, although it may still creep up from time to time.

Zelda also doesn't have the same struggles with magic as she used to in BOTW. She is show using her magic (and learning new magic) without the same hardship as she did in BOTW. It's kind of a chicken-and-egg situation where her newfound confidence helps her to do magic, which helps her be more confident. Zelda no longer has the kind of negative feelings about her powers that she used to have.

Any other updates: All of this is spoilers orz

Zelda now has time control powers. She doesn't have perfect control over them and can't time travel at will, but probably could if she had enough time to practice. For the sake of Songerein, Zelda's time powers will function similar Link's Recall ability, but stronger: limited to objects and non-sentient life forms (plants, small animals); larger object/longer time rewinded = more dreamotion energy needed. Anything larger than a building/longer than 12 hours can require mod permission, or otherwise as appropriate.

Zelda also has a stone that amplifies her inherent powers: this will amplify both her light/sealing power as well as her time power. For Songerein, it will be nerfed so that it's generally not as effective as it is in canon (or maybe it can't amplify her powers at all). If swallowed, the stone will turn Zelda into a giant dragon, which would require talking with the mods about limitations and such if I were to ever pursue it.

Zelda is arriving with her current outfit, her secret stone, and the broken Master Sword.

Regain Baubles? No, this is involuntary.

Questions/Other: I'd like to use Zelda's Light Dragon form at some point later on. I haven't really figured out how/what I want to do, but assume "something something dreamotion." I will scale her down for Song, since she's gigantic. These links are full of spoilers.

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] flamekthunder 2023-07-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Eustace
Canon: Granblue Fantasy
Current Canon Point: post Stay Moon + Ramen Travels with Cassius
New Canon Point: post Freedom's Dirge + Summer Fate Episodes
Updated Background:
Freedom's Dirge (event transcript), is an event the ties back to the first event Eustace was introduced in with the harvin, Skull, and the Odajumoki gang (Beatrix was also introduced in the first event but she's not involved in this one). In Freedom's Dirge, Skull and Balurga are captured by ex-Odajumoki gang members, however Skull create a diversion to allow Balurga to escape. Balurga manages to get to the Grandcypher where Eustace is currently staying and upon hearing what happened, he volunteers to join the MC to help save him. He is basically the only one who knows how to keep everyone in check and basically the only functioning brain cell of this team.

Another harvin named Rhiogur had created a new cult following called the Chamux under the guise that he could speak to the former Odajumoki leader (and former Society leader), Guzaletha. With some help with another former Odajumoki member, Reizrit, they are able to reveal the truth of Chamux's charade, battle it out, and settle everything. Eustace is the one to break Rhiogur's heart on revealing how Charlotta condemns him and helps support Skull in the final duel, stepping up to take his place. This mirrors the ending of Dirge of Freedom, where Eustace stepped aside so Skull could make the final blow against Guzaletha. In the end, Skull, Balurga, and Reizrit decide to follow their own paths.

In Eustace's Summer Fate Episode (transcript), Eustace is with MC, Vyrn, and Lyria at a lake for vacation and invite the erune to swim. However, he declines to work on Flamek's maintenance instead. Undaunted, the trio look for a way to get him to join in when they hear of a dog competition. With the best bait in hand, they manage to convince Eustace to come out and watch and to change into more appropriate summer clothing instead of his usual uniform. While watching the competition, a dog sticks by Eustace despite his attempts to have it go back to its owner.

During the third contest, a large eal appears while a dog and owner are in the water. The black dog that had been with Eustace rushes in to help them out while Eustace and MC prepare to fight off the eal. Afterwards, the black dog returns to Eustace's side and its trainer appears. She reveals she had sent the dog to a home before, but the owner passed in an accident and so she took it back in. Seeing the dog attached to Eustace, she suggest Eustace take the dog in. At first, Eustace is hesitant as he recalls what happened to Vitty and is afraid of losing such a loyal friend again. However, the black dog presses against Eustace's hand as if to reassure him, and in the end Eustace can't refuse and accepts to take in the dog. He then names him Valo and he and Valo would become inseparable—when Eustace is not out on missions at least.

Updated Personality:
Nothing too much, just Eustace continuing to show his SUPER SOFT SIDE.

Any other updates:
He's bringing Valo back with him! Or rather Valo is going to be following. If another bauble is needed to use as a regain, he'll just do it right when he gets back so (he has. a lot.)

Regain Baubles?
USING THE BAUBLES!!! And since he got 3 in the June rewards, let's just use those lol.

Questions/Other:
He'll be leaving from 7/01 and back after 7/03. Also can he come back with a burst of glitter because he's going through the well and the first to try this method—

Character: Leo Valdez
Canon: Riordanverse
Current Canon Point: end of Blood of Olympus
New Canon Point: end of Tower of Nero (11 months later)
Updated Background: Since the ending of BoO, Leo managed to save Calypso from Ogygia and proceeded to get lost in the Sea of Monsters for a few months. It wasn't until January, after Apollo/Lester Papolopulus arrived at CHB with Meg. Harley made a new radio device that allowed Festus to finally find their way back to camp. From there, Leo and Calypso decide to join Apollo in searching for the next Oracle to be saved. While in Indianapolis, Leo bonds with the owners of the Waystation, Emmie and Jo, and after Apollo manages to free the Oracle of Trophonius, they learn that Camp Jupiter is soon to be under attack. Leo grabs Festus and flies to Camp Jupiter to warn them of the impending attack, and helps them stop the wave of zombie-esque monsters controlled by Tarquin. After this attack, he starts to head back to the Waystation, but catches Apollo, Meg, and Piper at the airport in Santa Monica, where he learns of Jason Grace's death. He flies Piper to her new home in Oklahoma, then returns to the Waystation, where he takes up a permanent residence. While Apollo continues on his quest to free the Oracles, Leo stays at the Waystation, finding a family in Emmie and Jo. He soon starts to consider them parents, calling them both his moms. While him and Calypso go different ways, he delves in to using his time to teach homeless kids how to work on cars and other machines.
Updated Personality: Personality wise, he's still the same old, chaotic ADHD demigod that he is. He's grown more comfortable around the people he cares about, finally feeling like he's truly found where he belongs in life. He's found joy in helping other homeless kids like him, and has accepted that Calypso may not be his endgame, but doesn't regret saving her from her prison, either.

Character: percy jackson
Canon: riordanverse
Current Canon Point: post-last olympian
New Canon Point: post-blood of olympus
Updated Background:

well he got kidnapped and his memories erased by Hera and sent to another group of half-bloods that he didn't know existed to broker peace between the two camps when he got his memories back. and then all hell broke loose because the goddess Gaea started waking... so he went and killed some giants and started traveling with some demigods and ended up in hell and had to walk through literal hell to get back to the land of the living. and then there was more traveling, fighting, and then Gaea got her ass kicked and she's sleeping again. and here we are.

Updated Personality:

he's even more jaded than he was because the gods have fucked with his life not once, but twice now. since he's been through literal hell, he's more damaged mentally, even though he'll never ever admit that. while he's still an asshole kid we all know and love, his switch between that and a serious (mildly unhinged) demigod is even easier to flip. controlling poisons to attempt to kill a goddess in the middle of hell will do that to people.

Any other updates: he's still op as fuck but at least he doesn't have his immortality shield thing anymore. he lost that at the beginning of the son of neptune.

Regain Baubles? nah this is entirely involuntary.

Questions/Other: nah... he'll be back on the 17th.

Character: Kazuma Asogi
Canon: Great Ace Attorney
Current Canon Point: Case 2-4; during the night he spent at Dunkirk Harbor, France.
New Canon Point: Post-Game TGAA2
Updated Background: He'll return to be assign to Barok's murder trial as the prosecutor, and face Ryunosuke Naruhodou in court, with the judge being Lord Stronghart instead of the usual Santa judge. Kazuma spends most of the trial trying to convict Barok Van Zieks, even when Ryunosuke proved time and time again that it couldn't have been him. Even when Ryunosuke manages to uncover Kazuma's own involvement with the murder. He's blinded by his desire for revenge, disguised as his idea of justice. Eventually he will find his way to uncovering the truth with Ryunosuke, putting an end to Stronghart's reign of terror, his father's cruel murder and past, put to rest.

By the end of the trial, Kazuma chooses to stay in Great Britain, continuing under the tutelage of Barok Van Zieks. He still had much to learn as a prosecutor, and there was a darkness inside him that he needed to defeat.

Updated Personality: He'll finally come to terms about what happened to his father all those years ago, going through learning the truth and relatively be in a more optimisitic mood now that the root of all that evil and despair has been taken down. Tl;dr, he's not going to go after Barok or be constantly angry and vengeful.
Any other updates: He will no longer have his katana, Karuma on him.
Regain Baubles? Going to be real, I haven't kept track of the amount of baubles he has, but considering I've used at most, one since this game opened, he definitely has more than 3 baubles on hand from some event lol. If this complicate's things, than it was involuntary.

Questions/Other: He'll just disappear around August 11th to line up with the "stolen items/people" part of the event.

Canon Update

[personal profile] soughtrevenge 2023-11-02 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Estinien Varlineau
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Current Canon Point: Endwalker, after the Scions return to Old Sharlayan before leaving for Thavnair - MSQ quest "Returning Home"
New Canon Point: Post-Endwalker, current content (patch 6.50)
Updated Background: Here

Updated Personality (Contains Endwalker Spoilers)
Though he never sheds his gruff exterior, still keeping his distance among the Scions, Estinien continues to give his all during the Final Days, never once questioning what they were working toward and why. When confronted with the utter despair faced by the dragons on Ultima Thule, Estinien sacrificed himself and provided a way for his companions to press onward toward preventing the Final Day and saving their world. He gave his strength to the Warrior of Light to defeat Meteion without question. After the Final Days were averted and the Scions disbanded, Estinien continues wandering Etheirys, offering his strength to those in need.

After some time has passed, Estinien joins the Warrior of Light and a few of the former Scions in aiding Vrtra in rescuing his sister from the Thirteenth. Again, Estinien maintains his gruff exterior, but does not hesitate to put himself in danger when the safety of others is in question.

Any other updates: No new abilities or talents, still the same dragoon just with more trauma.

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] amnesiadragon 2024-01-21 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Ryu
Canon: Breath of Fire IV
Current Canon Point: End of Chapter II
New Canon Point: End of Chapter III
Updated Background: Plot here, but some quick notes.
- The group heads towards the west, with the assistance of Marlok (again), encountering a dreagon along the way. They end up going through the mountains and hit a military checkpoint. They meet up with another dragon (this will be a pattern) and end up in Shikk (a port city).
- Water/island shenanigans ensue, they pass through a swamp and meet some people they can't understand until they work to figure it out. More island shenanigans happen, plus some ruins.
- They eventually get to a burnt forest, and then Fou-Lu's tomb. Puzzles and boss fights happen and they continue further into Imperial territory. They eventually get to Kwanso and the Imperial HQ where they discover a very gross truth - Yuna (the Minister of Thaumaturgy) has been turning people into false Endless in order to torture them eternally to get infinite fuel for the Hex Cannon.
- Elina (Nina's sister) has been turned into one of these and for them to learn this they had to cut through a lot of organs in the building. Those were her organs. They leave the Dragonslayer sword with Cray who mercy kills her, and they leave, heading towards the capital.
Updated Personality: His personality doesn't change much, but it's been a rough road. He's grown a lot more stable and powerful, but he's also seen a lot more of the ugliness of humanity. He's been seeing a lot of good in the world! A lot of people who are willing to help others! ... But the recent reveal of what happened to Elina has reaffirmed the lesson that Rasso taught him - not all humans are good. Some just want to see others suffer.
Any other updates: Plenty! Let's start with the once a day powers from the dragons:

Rainstorm - Holy attack(s) on all enemies
Flood Tide - Wind/Water attack(s) on all enemies, causes Stun
Mud Flow - Water/Earth attack(s) on all enemies
Onslaught - Wind attack(s) on all enemies, causes Confusion
Fulguration - Does damage based on enemies' current HP
Healing Wind - Fully heals team and cures all status ailments
Holy Circle - Makes team invincible for one turn

(I'd say we could nerf these to being 'use one of the seven per day'.)

Kaiser form is also now controllable! Hooray! He also has a few more dragon forms:

Wyvern
(Good bonus to HP, decent increase to wisdom)
- Gigaflame (type: breath; fire-based breath attack against all enemies, damage is variant on remaining HP)
- Flame Strike (type: physical/fire; fire-based attack against one target)
- Hwa (type: fire; weak fire-based magic attack against one target)
- Jeh (type: fire; moderate fire-based magic attack against all targets)
- Might (type: power up; raises attack of one target)

Behemoth
(Very good increase to HP, good increase to attack/defense, halved agility and wisdom)
- Meteor Strike (type: breath; breath attack against all targets; damage variant on HP and defense)
- Searing Sand (type: earth; earth-based physical attack against one target)
- Chi Patoh (type: earth; deals moderate earth-based damage to one target)
- Patoh (type: earth; deals light earth-based damage to all targets)
- Counter (type: power up; automatically counter-attack for one turn)

Mutant
(Halved HP/attack, lowered agility, good increase to wisdom)
- Stardrop (type: breath; breath attack against all enemies, lowers enemy status)
- Snap (type: physical/power down; attack versus one target, decreases defense)
- Chlorine (type: physical/status change; an attack versus one target that deals damage and can sometimes inflict the victim with 'poison')
- Sleep (type: status change; induces 'sleep' in all targets)
- Silence (type: status change; induces 'mute' in all targets)

Myrmidon
(Good increase to HP, slight increase to attack/defense/agility)
- MetaStrike (type: breath; wind breath attack against all enemies, ignores defense power)
- Wind Strike (type: physical/wind; wind-based physical attack against one target)
- P'ung (type: wind; deals light wind-based damage to one target)
- Nah P'ung (type: wind; deals dmoderatet wind-based damage to all targets)
- SpiritBlast (type: physical; physical attak on one target, ignores target's defense power)

Regain Baubles? Nope, this is involuntary.

Questions/Other: I'm so sorry. Also this is going to be in like a week, I'm putting it here now so I don't forget.

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] lonelysmiles 2024-02-15 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Alastor
Canon: Hazbin Hotel
Current Canon Point: Post-pilot after Alastor makes jambalaya for the group
New Canon Point: Post-Season 1 after everyone moves into the new Hazbin Hotel
Updated Background:

Alastor has been missing from Hell for seven years prior to showing up at the then-Happy Hotel in the pilot. During the week since then, Alastor has "redecorated" his room at the Hazbin to include an actual swamp magically-stitched into the room much like how Husk's bar is stitched into the lobby. He watches in amusement as Vaggie and the others try to make a better commercial for the hotel than the one he'd made while Charlie goes to a meeting called by the angels in Lucifer's stead. At first, he's content to just watch until Vaggie points out that watching over an empty hotel would be boring for him, so he makes a deal with her: Not for her soul, but a deal to assist with the commercial in exchange for Vaggie never making him work with television again. He even pulls a few strings (and limbs) to get the commercial aired, but it gets cut off when an emergency news broadcast comes on to announce that the angels have moved up the next Extermination to six months.

Most people in Hell think Alastor's still gone until Vox finds out Alastor's at the hotel and decides to try and smear Alastor from the get-go...only to have Alastor turn the tables on him. Though entertainment has gone more to video and the internet, Alastor is able to draw a crowd using just his voice and natural charisma, pulling them away from their screens while jabbing at Vox's ego to the point Vox shorts out the power grid. ("Stayed Gone") After Sir Pentious's poor attempt at spying is discovered within a day of starting and he chooses to stay at the hotel to try and better himself ("It Starts With Sorry"), Alastor uses the VoxTek watch Sir Pentious had been wearing to call Vox and mock him for the attempt before fading back into the shadows of the hotel.

Alastor's first venture out to reconnect with old acquaintances is when he goes to a meeting of overlords by Carmilla Carmine with Sir Pentious's Egg Bois in tow to find a way to humanely get rid of them per Vaggie's insistence. While there, Velvette -- the youngest of the three Vees -- reveals the decapitated head of an Exorcist which the Vees found after the previous Extermination a week before. (He even snuck a taste. The weirdo.) This proves that it is possible to kill the Exorcists, something previously thought impossible. The meeting is cut short when Carmilla and Velvette get into an argument of what to do with this knowledge. ("Respectless") As the meeting breaks up, Alastor sends Frank, one of the Egg Bois who'd accidentally gotten into the elevator tube with Alastor and an older overlord and acquaintance of Alastor's named "Zestial", to spy on Carmilla, her daughters, and Zestial as they go to have a private discussion. Frank learns that Carmilla was the one who slew the angel ("Whatever It Takes") which he reports back to Alastor who decides to keep that knowledge in his back pocket for future use. Even though Alastor orders Frank not to tell anyone, Frank does tell Sir Pentious when Alastor brings the Egg Bois back to the hotel and Vaggie decides that Sir Pentious can keep his minions, but Sir Pentious doesn't believe him.

Over the next five months, Alastor watches the interactions from the others including Husk and Angel Dust starting to get closer. However, when Charlie decides to call her father for assistance, Alastor is immediately hostile. To get under Lucifer's skin, Alastor reminds Charlie that he's been there since the beginning while Lucifer had been nowhere to be seen, even going so far as to claim fatherly affection for Charlie. However, they're interrupted mid-musical argument by Mimzy, an old friend of Alastor's since he was alive. ("Hell's Greatest Dad")

While Alastor joins Charlie on giving Lucifer a tour of the hotel, Mimzy reveals a bit more about Alastor. When he initially came to Hell, nobody took him seriously. However, overlords started disappearing one by one, a strange radio broadcast filled with screams starting to echo across the Pride Ring. Eventually, Alastor revealed himself to be the one killing overlords and broadcasting their screams. Mimzy admits that that's the story everyone knows, but she knows that with a few fingers of rye and some jazz, Alastor becomes a kitten. Apparently, he used to drink like a sailor when he was alive but still be able to keep up with her dancing.

During this, Husk slips away to find Alastor. He warns Alastor that trouble is likely coming since Mimzy never shows up unless she's in hot water. Alastor claims he can handle everything easily, even mocking Husk's fall from overlord status to his "pet". Husk growls that Alastor is talking big for someone who's also on a leash. This sets off Alastor's temper to the point where he jerks the chain bonding Husk's soul to him, threatening Husk with being torn apart and having his screams broadcast to all of Hell. Husk shakily agrees not to say a word about that particular topic again.

However, Husk's prediction comes true with loan sharks attacking the hotel. Alastor goes into battle, using an enlarged kaiju version of himself and more of the eldritch tentacles sprouting from his back to easily tear through their forces, feeling satisfied at being allowed to blow off some steam. Yet when the slaughter is over, Alastor tells Mimzy that unless she decides she wants to better herself (something he admits isn't her style), she needs to leave because he can't have her bringing trouble to the hotel. Mimzy flips him off and leaves. It's then that Charlie and Lucifer finally reconcile, Lucifer admitting that he doesn't want Heaven to crush Charlie like it crushed him. ("More Than Anything") In the end, Lucifer agrees to open a portal to Heaven so Charlie can go plead her case directly to the angels, bypassing Adam.

The trip to Heaven turns into a total disaster. While Angel showed he'd improved during a night on the town with Cherri and the other Hazbin residents (save Alastor) that the court watched from Heaven, he wasn't redeemed despite fulfilling the requirements Adam had written out of what got him into Heaven. In fact, it's revealed that no one knows why some people go to Heaven and the rest go to Hell. During the trial, Adam lets the Extermination slip, revealing that Heaven as a whole had no idea what was happening in Hell. Emily, a seraphim who believes in Charlie's idea, asks Sera, the leader of the seraphim, if she knew about this which Sera admits she did to take the guilt off of Emily's shoulders. Charlie and Emily argue that the angels are nothing but hypocrites even as Sera pleads that there's more going on than they know. During the fight, Adam and Lute reveal that Vaggie is actually an Exorcist like them just before Adam opens a portal to send them back to Hell with the knowledge that the hotel is the first target of the Cleanse in one month. ("You Didn't Know") Emily shouts she'll do what she can to help even as Charlie and Vaggie are forced through the portal.

Charlie is devastated that Vaggie has lied to her for three years and that she failed to convince the angels to stop the Extermination despite coming so close. She hides in her room, crying, while the others wait for her to come up with some sort of plan. Alastor, realizing that Charlie is alone and vulnerable, slips up into Charlie's room and acts as her sounding board for her frustrations. When she's reached her lowest point, admitting that her friends will be slaughtered and there's nothing she can do about it, Alastor dangles the knowledge that there is something that can be done in front of her. He offers her a Deal which Charlie hesitates despite her clear desire to save her friends and found family. Alastor assures her he isn't after her soul, just a favor to be used later at a time of his choosing. Charlie agrees under the condition that he can't use the favor to make her hurt someone. The Deal is struck, and Alastor reveals to Charlie that Carmilla had killed an Exorcist during the last Extermination. Vaggie rushes in just a few moments too late and is told by Charlie that she needs to go to Carmilla to convince her to reveal the secret behind killing angels. Meanwhile, she and Alastor go to recruit allies from Cannibal Town.

Initially, the attempt goes badly. The cannibals are listening and interested but Charlie is distracted by what she sees as Vaggie's betrayal, going so far as to rant at Alastor about it the entire way to Cannibal Town. Even more frustrating, while Rosie, an overlord and leader of the cannibals, is on her side, the real person she needs to convince is Susan, an elderly cannibal whom Alastor describes as an "ornery old bitch" that the other cannibals will follow. Rosie takes Charlie aside to help her work through her feelings regarding Vaggie, Charlie remembering that Vaggie has been by her side supporting her this whole time and that her entire hotel is about second chances. This is Vaggie's way of making amends for all of the demons she's slaughtered over the years. She tries again to convince the cannibals, choosing instead to sing out her feelings instead of just talk. Susan and the cannibals are brought on board through that and the promise of all the angel flesh they can eat. ("Ready For This") Charlie and Alastor return to the hotel with a cannibal army as Vaggie returns with a new set of wings along with weapons made of angelic steel courtesy of Carmilla who taught Vaggie the secret to killing Exorcists: The Exorcists are vulnerable to their own heavenly steel in addition to their fighting style being fundamentally flawed due to their belief that the demons have no way of killing them, leaving them open to counterattack since they wear no armor and bear no shields.

The ragtag army trains up until the night before the Extermination, Charlie and Vaggie choosing to relax the rules of staying at the hotel so everyone can enjoy themselves before the battle. The group gathers around Husk's bar except for Alastor who watches from the mezzanine, wistfully remarking that one could become accustomed to the odd group. Niffty joins him, crowning him "King Roach" with a crown bearing dead roaches as "jewels", and tells him that she likes these people.

The battle comes in the morning. As the Exorcists attack, Alastor stands on the roof and summons a massive spherical shield to surround the hotel and the surrounding grounds, trapping some of the Exorcists inside while the rest of the force including Adam and Lute are outside. The plan works thanks to the angels' belief that they're immortal up until the weapons imbued with heavenly steel Carmilla armed the hotel with begin cutting down their forces. Alastor has been summoning tentacles through the shield to wield more heavenly steel to cut through the forces trying to break in from the outside, but Adam shatters the shield with one blow. Alastor distracts Adam for as long as he can, nimbly dodging blows while taunting Adam to keep his focus away from the others. Unfortunately, Adam's power proves to be far greater than Alastor's, one blow cleaving Alastor's microphone staff in two in addition to forcing him out of his full demon form. As Alastor reels from shock, Adam manages to land a direct hit, cutting him from his left shoulder to his right hip with his guitar axe. Rather than throwing his life away in a foolish final stand that would accomplish nothing, Alastor retreats from the battle, seriously wounded. Adam goes on to attack the others, leading them to believe that he killed Alastor. Adam then kills Sir Pentious and most of the Egg Bois by atomizing his dirigible. Charlie unleashes her full demon form along with transforming Razzle and Dazzle into a pair of mighty dragons. While Dazzle and Vaggie face off against Lute, Charlie and Razzle fight Adam and nearly lose. Lucifer shows up just in time to save Charlie and the pair manage to send Adam to the ground, but the hotel is destroyed in the fray. Charlie convinces Lucifer to show mercy to Adam since they'd beaten him, but Adam threatens that he'll be back with more Exorcists...only to have his threats cut off by Niffty stabbing him from behind. Lute leads the Exorcists in a full retreat after Adam dies.

Searching through the rubble, Charlie learns that Dazzle is also dead thanks to Lute. KeeKee and Fat Nuggets survived the destruction of the hotel, but so much was lost in the fight. Charlie briefly falls to her knees in despair, claiming she could have done better. However, Lucifer and the others still on the battlefield encourage her to get back up and rebuild, and together they build a brand new Hazbin Hotel from the ground up. Meanwhile, Alastor has slunk off to his fallen radio tower to lick his wounds. He's having an emotional and mental breakdown as he realizes he barely escaped death this time. He's never felt the desire for freedom quite this strongly before, but he's determined to find a backdoor to escape it, claiming it'll unclip his wings to the point where he'd be pulling all the strings. He rejoins the rest of the group at the new hotel with a bright smile, giving no indication of the turmoil going on his head or how badly he'd been injured. ("Finale")

Unknown to everyone in Hell, Sir Pentious wasn't permanently erased but instead was sent to Heaven to become an angel, manifesting before Sera and Emily.

Updated Personality:

Surprisingly, very little is changed other than Alastor being more aware of the exact limits of his powers. (Which apparently were already nerfed even before he came to Reverein.) His progression through Season 1 of Hazbin Hotel shockingly mirrors his development in Songerein right down to being willing to sacrifice himself to save others, facing Adam in Hazbin and keeping the reactor together in Orkili. That and realizing that he isn't as immortal as he thought himself to be. Being in Hell for ninety years with the only things that could kill him being angelic steel or power, he got cocky. Not to mention that death isn't permanent in Reverein.

Up until now, he's been content even within the limits of his Deal. While freedom would be nice, he has more than enough power to still remain on top. However, now he has a drive to try and find a way out of his Deal to regain his full strength. He might not crave power, but being on top has its perks in that he'd be able to stay alive to do what he wishes including being able to protect the people he sees as his.

Any other updates:

Alastor's microphone staff will be broken.

Even though it's revealed Alastor is already weakened by his Deal even before coming to Reverein, the full extent of his powers is unknown.

The only thing that will be added is that Alastor can summon the eldritch tentacles out of his own body. However, while this doesn't seem to hurt him in canon, it will hurt him in Reverein, making it a double-edged sword and something he'd want to refrain from using as much as possible.

Alastor has already been able to create shields in Reverein so that's already on the list, but he will not be able to sprout tentacles from them.

Regain Baubles? Nope. This is him conking out involuntarily.

Questions/Other: I saw that the time difference was up to three days. I'm assuming him taking an unexpected nap would be just for that time period at maximum or would it be all right if I extended it out for a week? I don't need to take a hiatus but I'm going to be in the office for most of next week and won't have much time to tag, so I figured it'd be a good excuse for him to be quiet. Otherwise, three days is fine. It doesn't mess up any of my plans either way. :)

Character: percy jackson
Canon: riordanverse
Current Canon Point: post-blood of olympus
New Canon Point: post-chalice of the gods
Updated Background:

chalice of the gods isn't really a book about high stakes god stuff, unless you consider percy getting into college being high stakes. he's not able to get into college in the school he wants to get into (a demigod-centered school) because of his being a forbidden child of the gods. he's got to get a letter of recommendation from three gods to get into this school, new gods past the ones he'd already saved the ass of. so we get a wacky montage of doing a side quest for a god and he hugs Old Age like an old friend.

Updated Personality:

not much changes. he's just some silly kid that's really tired of the gods fucking with him but he's still just Like This.

Any other updates: nah
